On August 21, 2023, the MetSoc UofT Student Chapter, part of the UofT Materials Industry Club, hosted a successful Student Fun Night for attendees of the COM2023 conference. This event aimed to create an engaging and relaxed atmosphere for students to socialize, network, and unwind. Held at the 17 Tiles Board Games and Mahjong Café, it attracted a diverse group of students from various universities, fostering connections and encouraging meaningful interactions.

The chapter initially sent out registration forms to over 90 students, ultimately closing registration once 27 had signed up. Of those, 14 enthusiastic participants joined the event, accompanied by three executive members from the chapter: Sarah Najdi, Mark Gorban, and Olayemi Biaou. The evening began in the Student Zone of the Convention area at the Fairmont Royal York, where attendees gathered around 6 PM. Complimentary two-way Presto tickets were provided for smooth transportation, and the group departed at approximately 6:45 PM, taking a short 7-minute TTC subway ride from Union Station to Wellesley Station, followed by a brief 3-minute walk to the café.

The venue, 17 Tiles Board Games and Mahjong Café, offered a cozy and inviting atmosphere for the event. The café's third floor at 556 Yonge St. was reserved for the group at 7:00 PM, ensuring a seamless experience. Additionally, a pamphlet showcasing activities to explore around Toronto was prepared and distributed in advance, enhancing the overall experience for attendees.

The event served as an excellent platform for networking and socializing. Students from various universities, including Laval University, McMaster University, McGill University, Memorial University of Newfoundland, Queen's University, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, University of Waterloo, University of British Columbia, Toronto Metropolitan University, and Murdoch University, engaged in casual conversations, connected with peers, and enjoyed a variety of group board games. The relaxed atmosphere fostered the exchange of ideas and experiences.

Overall, the event successfully facilitated connections among students from various universities, providing a relaxed environment for networking and enjoyment. Positive feedback from attendees underscores the event's success in achieving its intended goals, and gratitude is extended to all participants, MetSoc for their support, and everyone involved in making the event memorable.
